Deeper Dreams than Sleep.

2/27/09

I dreamt that I was scheduled for an unusual medical procedure which would require me to me under anesthesia for a while. This anesthetic would disconnect my mind from my body, leaving me in a dreamlike state. Though I aught to be nervous, I was very excited. I hoped to be able to recall everything that I dreamt while I was under.

My mother was to drive me there and back, as I would be unsafe to drive myself back from the doctor’s office. The procedure itself wouldn’t take long, and was completely out-patient. It was never established what the procedure was or what it was for.

My mom had recently purchased a book which she had finished and wanted to lend to me. I was excited to read that, too. It was about a man who spent ten years in a coma in a dreamlike state, and what he recalled of it when he awoke.

I read the first paragraph in the dream, and it was about his admission that many of the sights and sounds from his time dreaming were the quickest to fade. He had learned a new language, in his dream, but he found himself forgetting it almost immediately as soon as he awoke. I was astonished.

I asked my mother how long it took her to read it, and she told me it wasn’t long. “It’s only fifteen pages,” she said. “I could finish that in the doctor’s office,” I told her, confused as to how the proper amount of information could be housed in fifteen pages, disappointed that he had forgotten so much. She corrected me, smirking a little, “Fifteen hundred.” That was more like it, though it meant I would have to wait to read the book until after my dream.

I awoke with a clear and strong memory of this dream, and immediately got up to write this. I’m pleased with this dream, and it left me feeling good. I regret waking up when I did. I’m curious as to what I needed anesthetic for, and what I might dream while I was under.

was your dream in any way prophetic? do you keep a record of your dreams ? have you had any dreams that were prohetic?

    Hello ella,

I can’t say it’s been prophetic in any way, fortunately. I haven’t required any medical procedures and have never been under anesthesia. There’s always time in the future, and though I had a good feeling about what was going to happen in the dream, in my waking life the thought of anesthesia is rather frightening.

I do keep a record of my dreams, both here and in a dream journal I’ve been keeping since late 2007. The entries are sporadic at best, and most night I don’t write anything. Sometimes I don’t recall my dreams with enough clarity to write them down, other times I don’t recall them at all. Many times my dreams occur in the middle of the night, and when I awaken I’m too groggy to write anything and quickly drift back to sleep, losing the dream.

I can’t say I’ve ever had a prophetic dream, as far as I’m aware. I’d like to, though something tells me it’s cooler to think about than to experience. If I had a strongly prophetic dream, I think I’d be rather disturbed by it. I’m not sure precognition fits into my world view, and forcing me to change that would be jarring at best.

Thank you for your comment. I hope you’ve enjoyed the blag.
