Super Team Ninja Fortress Bros!
3/1/09
I dreamt of a cool new video game I played with some new friends. It was built much like the side-scrolling Super Mario World on the SNES, only it was a multiplayer game where we played ninja in a cooperative team-based fashion against other clans. You scored points for defeating your rivals and for stealing important artifacts from their headquarters. I was very new to the game.
Most of my clan was away, presently, and I was still learning the controls. As a ninja, I could jump really high, swing a sword to deadly effect, and turn invisible for a short time. I spent some time learning the 2d side-scrolling overworld environment before I set out to find the enemy base.
I came across a back entrance to their base, were five of them were waiting for us to get back. They weren’t paying attention, and were probably half AFK, so I snuck up behind them and drew my sword…
Slashing wildly, I crudely hacked one down before they could react. Getting the hang of it, I cleanly decapitated another with a swipe of my blade before he could turn around. Flailing with the gamepad, I performed some kind of special move, my sword spinning in a wide arc, taking out two more instantly, giving them no time to fight back as they realized too late what was happening.
The last of them gathered his wits about him and drew a small blue dagger, facing me. He had the advantage of experience, but I had the twin benefits of reach and better defense, and we dueled. He was either very good or very lucky, because he survived against my furious onslaught for many seconds. I began to worry that his friends would respawn and surround me before I could take him down, and I would be killed from behind.
I slashed and thrusted while he parried, looking for an opening which never came. My blade skipped past his little blue dagger, ending his life. Five kills under my belt, I turned invisible and ran back to the relative safety of my team’s base.
At the base, one of our clan leaders was thrilled by my little massacre . He congratulated me, asking me to show him where it happened. I brought him there, and then he offered to show me a faster way back to the base. I was disappointed to discover that his shortcut wouldn’t work for me. Maybe I had to unlock an achievment first or something. As we discussed it, I woke up.

I love this dream- It sounds like it would really work well as a game. I’d certainly play it!
I also like the explicit detail in how you moved and attacked. It’s not just that you moved forward, but the specific sword movement is a nice touch.. I want this game!
I also think it’s interesting how personal the game is.. It’s not just you doing well in the game, but being able to share that with the clan leader, and having him be proud of you. I think that’s a big, but understated part of the dream. Having people respect and be proud of you is important to everyone.

As would I. It was exciting to play.
I can recall pressing buttons to move, jump, and attack, even though the video screen was the whole of the dream, and my body, while able to alter the events of the dream, did not appear in it.
I agree that the community aspect of the game is a very big part of the appeal. This game could work with AI opponents, but it would lose most of what makes it truly awesome.
