Caught Between a Pond and a Nude Place, pt. 2.

Inside, the building was nicely furnished. I was in a long narrow room, with bookshelves on the wall leading up to the window I entered through. There didn’t seem to be any doors in the room, which is strange, and it was barely wider than a hallway. The wall across from the window I gained entry through was shelved, though otherwise bare, and I reasoned that there must be an interior entrance to this room, and that it was unlikely to be found on an exterior wall.

To my surprise, I managed to find a sliding panel attached to a bookshelf. It slid open easily enough, and I slid out through the narrowest opening I could. The next room over was a hallway proper, this time with doors but no windows. Looking back now, this hallway seemed to defy 3d space, as it not only extended past where the edge of the building should have been, it had a door to a room beyond that! Of course, I didn’t notice this at the time.

At one end of the hallway there was a large staircase leading up to the second floor, the hallway continuing beyond. In the middle, across from me, there was a thick wooden door, offset from the secret door by a few feet. At the other end, the one bending spacetime, it opened up into a small room, with a door across from the stairs and another, on the same wall as the door in front of me. All the doors save the one I entered through were closed.

I could hear sounds of habitation coming from up the stairs, but I didn’t want to go that way anyway. I opened the door across from me cautiously, discovering to my relief that it was unlocked and lead outside! My means of escape assured, I was feeling more brazen, so I went down to the other end of the hell.

I approached the door opposite the stairs. I could hear what sounded like a washer and dryer running quietly beyond. I reached for the handle when I heard someone approaching from the door to my right, the same side as the exit, just further down. Panicking, I turned and ran.

My footfalls must have been terribly quiet, because I heard that door open, and another, accompanied by the washer and dryer getting louder. The door closed just as I was looking back that way, standing next to the exit to the building. I decided to quit while I was ahead, and slipped out through the front door, leaving undetected.

I worried about leaving fingerprints in the house without gloves, but it was moot if they never suspected I was there. I woke up as I left the building to run back to my dad’s and get dressed.
