Vilainous Assault on Time, pt 1!

I dreamt I was a super hero, trying to solve a big problem where villains were using time travel to get their aims. Though I had no idea what those aims were, any time time travel is involved, you know it’s a bad thing. I had acquired a time machine of sorts. Like the villains’, it didn’t move you forward or backward through time, it moved you sideways, to other time lines. Unfortunately, the shift didn’t always go according to plan…
I was in a large multi-storied residential building with my time machine. I had already checked out some of the nearby time lines and found that the villains were coordinating some sort of attack in many time lines simultaneously. Something very strange happened when I got into my time machine again. There must have been some sort of malfunction, because when I stepped out into a new time line, I was no longer myself!
I had been a young male hero, well-trained but lacking any sort of supernatural power. After the timelside, however, I found myself in the body of a small girl, probably no older than six! I was immediately very confused. While I could recall who I really was, it was difficult to focus on it. I knew that I had to find out what happened to me and put a stop to whatever plans the villains had.
I quietly slunk down the hallway, leaving my time machine behind. I was annoyed and worried that my costume and all my equipment had vanished, but I still had my memories to back me up. Even a six year old can be stealthy. I’d been in this part of the building before, in other time lines. Only minor details changed between worlds, like the paint on the walls or the color of the rugs, the structure of the building remained constant.
At the end of the hall I found a large room with a bizarre spectacle inside. There was a large orb suspended in the room a foot or so off the floor, only the very outline of which was visible as arcs of red laser light at right angles from each other, encircling the equator and prime meridian of the otherwise transparent sphere. In the center, offset a bit, there was a bbright yellow spark, making a faint hissing sound.
I wondered what it could be until I heard distant distorted voices coming from within it. They were talking about a time portal, and dynamite. I realized, with fear gripping me, that the spark was a lit fuse!
I ran. Back around the corner into the hall. I had no idea what would happen if the explosion went off in the middle of a time portal, let alone the middle of the building. I couldn’t even begin to ponder the consequences of their rash actions. I ran for my time machine, but there was an echoing explosion and the building shook before I could get there. I slipped and fell as it occurred, mere yards away from my escape. Damn these short juvenile legs!
When I looked up, sprawled on the floor, my eyes met an even more frightening sight than the dynamite. My time machine had vanished without a trace…
